Billions of cells pulse electrical signals from axon to dendrite across the brain to coordinate thoughts, movements, sensations and bodily functions. When taken out of its encasement, i.e. the skull, the brain looks like a uniform, kind of ugly, deflated ball. But the cells that make up that mass are not uniform; in fact, these neurons fall into (at least) hundreds of different categories.
